Bet I'm the first person who's been refused an MOT test!  This morning a very disagreeable bloke at a local garage shouted at me "Your car's not fit to be tested.  There's mud on the front mats and the back seat isn't folded  down and there's wisps of hay in the back".  He was so unpleasant that I took my poor Trooper away with a small tear in my eye.  I've been MOTing mud monsters for ages and this has never happened.  Boo hoo. And I'm an old lady

Sounds like he's just lost a potentially valuable customer.

He certainly would've done if it was me.  Plus I would've asked to see in the test schedule where it says the vehicle has to be immaculate and have the seats folded, and then told him where he could stick his test anyway.

Three things I can't abide, bad manners, sloppy workmanship and idleness.

His loss.

It's a pity you don't live in Staffs. We have a tame MOT tester who has tested mine when it was covered in mud and all he did was make a joke out of it by telling me to make him a cup of tea or he'd charge me more  Laughing
He's not a mate or anything - just a sound bloke who owns a garage (rare) so he gets loads of work.
I'm not 100% sure but I think they can refuse a test if the vehicle is too dirty, I suppose it's up to the tester but mud on the mats and a bit of hay! And whatever, there's no excuse for him being rude.

Yup, they can refuse if they cant visually check the steering, suspension etc.
But dirty mats  Question  Question  Question
Sure its not a testing station for taxis  Laughing

It's a bit like a garage refusing to fix the engine cos it's got oil in it.  Laughing

When MOTing PSV's - buses, they have to be steam cleaned underneath or they will be refused (at the leicester station either). Too many refusals or failures in one year - and the operator can loose their licence. It's why most PSV's are sent through a pre MOT check before the actual MOT.

So technically, an MOT tester can refuse a vehicle which they consider to be 'too' dirty. Although they would have to be a prat to refuse due to dirty seats - come one - what are the state of his overalls !!!!
