Tank may need replacing(Sept 2000 vehicle). Is this item only available from main dealer, and if so any idea of cost? |

Hiya Dab,
Before you go and get a loan from the bank and visit the main dealer, try ringing around your local scrappies for one which has been involved in a front end crash or something...
You might be lucky and save a pretty penny.

Thanks to both of you for advice. Japanese 4x4 thought it was a dealer only supplied part. I'll try Milners and get a price.
Did manage to get possible non-dealer source: "Fuel Tanks Direct" are offering replacement unit at £198.56. Don't know if that includes VAT, and delivery will add a few quid. It's guaranteed for 3 years. I thought the price seemed reasonable. I haven't plucked up the courage to call main dealer yet!
Still got fingers crossed that it's just one of the many pipes uptop of the tank seeping: .... hope may spring eternal for Trooper owners, but then harsh and expensive reality usually kicks in! |

You could try dropping the tank and having a pressure test done (if you have another car) radiator reconditioners can do this. It might cost a couple of quid, but will highlight if the problem is tank or pipework related.
Should save you a little time when it comes round to fixing. You may find that you can have the tank repaired?? If you can find some one good enough, or crazy enough to take a welder to a tank!!!
