I live in Spain - in a part where 4wd is essential & I love my 1994 3.1 swb Trooper. But I'm having trouble with the rear axle and my spanish is not up to conversing about diffs with the locals! Can anyone tell me if my diff is of the LSD variety (or how I tell) and if it could be the cause of graunching/knocking and generally expensive sounding noise on take off under load, especially with the steering wheels turned?

Look under the bonnet at the plate on the bulkhead. The code for lsd is G80. If you've got one it is important that the correct oil/additive is used or the 'limited slip' function will be ruined.

If you jack the car up and spin the wheel the other wheel should spin in the same direction if it has a slipper fitted
