over the weekend had a good 200mile round trip from a full tank then filled up again. My mpg worked out at only 19mpg .. after reading some of the posts ive noticed that many of you on run of motorway traffic were getting between 26 and 30 mpg, any ideas of making mine better???? I serviced it a month or 2 ago and since then on start up in mornings and again 8/9 hours latter it stated chucking out loads of white smoke ?????????????? |

Just a thought but when you start how long does the glow plug light stay on for? and if you stop when warm and restart how long then? _________________ Front Aussie Locker - Rear LSD - Petrol Diffs

first thing in the morning it stays on for about 20/30secs. but when its warm and i start it again probably only10/15secs.
If i was to put some injector cleaner in the fuel filter and run it do you think that might cure it?
When i first start it it chucks out a big beloo of smoke and coughs and splutters then after a minute or so its ok. i can start and stop it all day and there is no prob it only happens when its been sitting for a few hours |

Have a look at the QOS sensor on the t-stat housing (the smaller one of the two on the top) look at the wiring as this is exactly what it would do if this was disconnected.
Also have a look at the glow plus and test them with a multi meter. _________________ Front Aussie Locker - Rear LSD - Petrol Diffs

White cloud - diesel.
Wet patch of water under exhaust - Water
Blue - Oil
Black - Over fueling (similar to running rich on a petrol) when the engine is working hard
HUGE amount of white when driving - New turbo needed
As for MPG - I never get anywhere near 30 - normally around 17 - 20 round town, and 23 - 25 on a motorway. _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

I actually get less on a run, as it's running a bit fast at 70mph, needs another gear! Day to day I manage damn near 30mpg, I get about 220 miles, most weeks to £35. _________________ Every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff from out of my brain.
